Your care will be provided by Board Certified Physician Anesthesiologist who is additionally trained in the field of Interventional Pain Management.
Dr. Axel Vargas is an Attending Anesthesiologist with extensive experience in the areas of Ambulatory Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia, Interventional Pain Management, Minimally Invasive (MIS) Endoscopic Spinal Surgery, Endoscopic Spinal Stenosis and Discectomy Surgery, Sacro-Iliac (SI) Joint Fusion, and in general all Interventional Spine procedures as well as Neuromodulation techniques, i.e., dorsal column spine stimulation.
His area of expertise includes diagnosis of various forms of acute and chronic pain conditions, Minimally Invasive (MIS) Endoscopic Spinal Surgery, Endoscopic Spinal Stenosis and Discectomy Surgery, Sacro-Iliac (SI) Joint Fusion, Percutaneous Discectomy and Nucleoplasty Surgery, as well as Neuromodulation techniques, i.e., Dorsal Column Spinal Cord Stimulation and Dorsal Ganglion Root Stimulation.
He completed a Surgical Residency training at Case Western Reserve University affiliated Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio and subsequently trained in the field of Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Management at Northwestern University Hospitals in Chicago.
He was offered as an Assistant Professorship in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
He also worked as the Interventional Pain management Physician for the Chicago Bears Organization.
He is fluent in Italian and Spanish, and speaks Russian and French as well.
His wife, Dr. Yana Nedvetsky, is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois (UIC) and she is well-known Implant Dentist in the Chicago area.
He has two daughters and a son; Nicole, a book author, travel writer and an chief editor of Fodor’s in Manhattan in New York City, Natalie a graduate from The Juilliard School of Music and Columbia University, and a post-graduate below at the John Hopkins University-Peabody School and an accomplished International Piano Performer, and Jan, an accomplished cellist, and a polymath wiz.
